The huge container ship “Ever Given”, which blocked the Suez Canal for six days in March this year, successfully crossed it on August 20.
The ship was en route from the United Kingdom to China and crossed the canal, as was a convoy of 26 ships sailing from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, according to a report from the Suez Canal Authority. Another 36 ships crossed this route to the south.
Suez Canal officials, along with two tugs, accompanied Ever Given on the entire journey through the canal.
On March 23, one of the world’s largest container ships got stuck in the canal due to a strong wind, stopping traffic in both directions and disrupting global trade. About 15% of world trade takes place through the Suez Canal, as it is the shortest route between Europe and Asia.
