The ship Kommuna was shot down by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Crimea – what is known about it

What is known about the ship “Commune”

Russian ship “Commune” for over 100 years. She is the oldest working ship in the Russian fleet and possibly the oldest in the world.

The Russians launched the Commune back in 1913. In 1915, the ship became part of the Russian Baltic Fleet. At first the ship was called “Volkhov” – supposedly in honor of the Novgorod river, and, according to another version, in honor of the biblical Magi. On December 31, 1922, the ship was renamed “Commune”.

In 1967, the ship “Commune” was redeployed from Kronstadt to Sevastopol. This ship is designed to search and rescue submarines, and also serves as a carrier of underwater vehicles. He is the only one like this in the Black Sea.

“It (“Commune” – ed.) served submarines, launched underwater drones. And It was this ship that worked at the site of the sinking of the cruiser “Moscow”to pick up critical elements at the flood site. Despite its “venerable age,” it had quite the latest equipment,” Navy spokesman Dmitry Pletenchuk told RBC-Ukraine.

Strike at the Commune

On the morning of April 21, an explosion was heard in occupied Sevastopol. Then a video of a fire in the Sevastopol Bay appeared online, and an eyewitness in the video spoke about the “arrival” of a rocket at the ship. The Russian occupiers, in turn, claimed that the attack on the ship was repulsed.

The Crimean Wind Telegram channel reported in the morning that the Kommuna ship was probably attacked. And in the evening Pletenchuk confirmed this on his Facebook page.

“As for the choice of target, I can only note that the enemy continues to cover its combat units with support vessels in Crimeabecause combat units are more important to them,” added the Navy speaker in a conversation with RBC-Ukraine.

At the same time, Pletenchuk emphasized that the attack was carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and also promised that “similar cases” will continue to occur in Crimea.
