The CR Classification Society (CR Classification Society, hereinafter referred to as CR) held the 2023 International Shipping Outlook and Trend Development Seminar at Ruxi Hotel yesterday (21). State Control (PSC) performance, the latest energy conservation and emission reduction regulations and technological developments. Cheng Zhiwen, CEO of the Ship Inspection Center, said in his speech that CR has been established for more than 73 years. In addition to guarding the safety of ships, it has always played the role of a think tank for my country’s shipping industry technology. Regarding international energy-saving and emission-reduction issues, CR has continued to pay attention to and has been Formulate various alternative fuels and low-flash point fuel guidelines to assist airlines through the fuel conversion period, and also develop and complete flight optimization programs, using genetic algorithms to provide airline operators with the lowest cost and lowest carbon emissions. In the future, we will pay close attention to the development of various technologies and organize information in real time for the reference of the industry.

In this seminar, CR Zhou Yongxiang, the deputy chief surveyor, gave a briefing on “improving ship management performance and reducing the risk of ship detention”. By taking effective measures to ensure that the ship complies with international norms and standards, avoiding the risk of ship detention, and further explaining Dispelling the myth of double classification, the single CR classification national ship convention certificate issued by CR has never encountered obstacles in traveling to various ports in the world for decades.

Then Wu Jinhan, director of the CR Research Office, explained “MEPC 79 meeting focus, focusing on energy transformation”, introducing the latest greenhouse gas emission reduction trends, including the latest adjustment draft of IMO’s MEPC 79 emission reduction goals and the latest EU consensus. According to this consensus, maritime carbon emissions will be included in the EU ETS from 2024. As the time is approaching, it is expected to soon affect the operation planning of shipping companies. In addition, the trend of using alternative fuels such as LNG and methanol in new shipbuilding orders has gradually grown. In response to the international trend of energy conservation and carbon reduction, CR has also developed a number of alternative fuel guidelines for reference from all walks of life.

Finally, CR specially invited Mr. Adam Green, the well-known German marine engine manufacturer MAN Energy Solution Managing Director, to share on the theme “Moving Big Things to Zero in Shipping”, introducing and explaining in detail the types of marine engines developed by the company for different types of alternative fuels, The characteristics of different alternative fuels, the challenges they face and future development trends, etc. Mr. Adam Green specifically mentioned that MAN has delivered more than 1,000 dual-fuel engines, of which liquefied natural gas is the bulk, followed by liquefied petroleum gas, methanol, and ethane. It is expected that ammonia dual-fuel engines will be officially launched in 2024. It is expected that 80% of new ships will use dual-fuel engines after 2032. This trend is not only growing, but will become the mainstream in the future.

CR said that it will regularly share the latest international shipping issues through seminars and technical bulletins, and strengthen exchanges and interactions with the industry, and do its best to provide shipping companies with high-quality and high-satisfaction technical assistance and support, and continue to contribute to my country’s shipping industry.
