At the end of the 80s Italy was the first European power in the automotive sector, Fiat was at the helm and Turin was its industrial capital
Today we have lost the minds and technicians who had made it great, thousands of jobs have disappeared and in terms of production even Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have surpassed us. After the merger with the American Chrysler in 2014, in 2021 the wedding arrives with the French of PSA from which Stellantis is born. For John Elkann it is “a marriage of equals”, but the real center of the group now seems to be Paris, also due to the presence of the French state in the share capital. In Italy, tens of thousands of workers are being laid off and related companies are at risk of closure, while the company plans new production plants in Africa and opens a battery factory in northern France. With an exclusive interview with Nicolas Dufourcq, representative of the French state on the Stellantis board, and unpublished internal documents, the Report explains the shift across the Alps in the automotive industry value chain, despite the huge amount of state aid received in the last 30 years .
