The sports version of the VW ID.3 electric car will probably arrive together with its modernization within the next year.

Ralf Brandstatter, who has been the head of the Volkswagen brand since July 2020, confirmed during last year’s mobility fair in Munich that the ID.X sports electric hatchback concept has been given the green light and will focus on production. “A decision has been made. We have ID.4 GTX and we will have ID.3 GTX“Colleagues from AutoExpress quoted his words at the time.
It has not been known for a long time when the new model will be introduced, but we can get a certain idea thanks to the introduction of the ID.5 model in Austria. According to AutoExpress, Martin Hube, the product spokesman, should have mentioned during this occasion that the ID.3 GTX model will arrive on the offer together with the modernization of the ID.3 model.

Hube added that the project continues successfully and with the modernization of ID.3 we will see some interesting details. In addition, the modernization should include meeting expectations for increased performance and an all-wheel drive model, as customer expectations are said to be what the brand must meet.
We already have information from the past that the modernization of the ID.3 model is planned for 2023. It is therefore very likely that next year the brand will also present its electric hot-hatch ID.3 GTX, which will be after the ID.4 and ID.5 another model in the purely electric sports line GTX, following the GTI, GTD and GT-E.

We will still have to wait for the exact parameters of the ID.3 GTX production model, however, Ralf Brandstatter already indicated in Munich that it may not be as powerful as the original concept. He counted on the use of two electric motors and a combined power of 245 kW (333 hp). The battery should then have a usable capacity of 77 kWh.
However, the ID.3 GTX is currently expected to take over the technology from the ID.4 GTX. All-wheel drive via a pair of electric motors would be maintained, as would the usable capacity of the battery, but the combined power could drop to 220 kW (299 hp). This combination allows the larger ID.4 GTX to accelerate to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds.

It is also worth noting that the ID.3 GTX may not be the only addition to the group’s electric cars. In the past, there has been speculation that the ID.3 model could lose its roof and become the basis of the ID.3 Cabriolet electric convertible.
The sporty range of ID models could then be expanded in the future by even more extreme and powerful cars, which would preserve the R-letter for future generations, which is the pinnacle of sportiness among today’s Volkswagen passenger cars.
