Forward David Pastrňák scored two goals in Saturday’s NHL game to give the Boston hockey players a 4:2 victory on the San Jose ice. The Czech scorer was declared the absolute protagonist of the match for his performance, he has already scored 29 goals in the current season and is the third best scorer in the league.
Defenseman Filip Hronek assisted Detroit’s only goal in a 1:4 loss on the ice of Toronto and improved his season-high to 29 points (7+22). Goaltender Vítek Vaněček made 31 saves to help New Jersey win over the New York Rangers 4:3 in overtime.
Boston in San Jose led 2-0 after six minutes, but the home team managed to equalize. Pastrňák then took the fate of the game in hand, who was the first to use a power play in the 37th minute and scored a second time in the 9th minute of the third period.
Check out David Pastrňák’s goals:
The Bruins win for the third time in a row, mainly thanks to the Czech striker and Brad Marchand’s three points (1+2) and bring to thirteen games in which they have scored at least one point. Leading the Eastern Conference and the entire NHL, Boston is already nine points ahead of second-ranked Carolina.
Two Bruins goals were set up by captain Patrice Bergeron, who scored 1,013th career point and replaced the legendary Phil Esposito for third on the club’s all-time list. “It’s a special act. After all, the players lined up around Patrice are legends of the club and the entire NHL,” said Bruins coach Jim Montgomery.
Detroit started actively in Toronto, clearly outscoring the opponent 8:2 in the first period and taking a well-deserved lead at the end of the 12th minute. Hronek pushed the puck to Olli Määtä in his own backcourt, who with an excellent pass to the offensive blue line sent penalty box defender Jake Walman into flight, who ended the unusual collaboration of three defenders with a shot Ilji Samsonov’s goal post to left.
Just after 24 seconds into the second period, Mitchell Marner tied it on a power play. The Maple Leafs goal started and took the lead. In the 27th minute, John Tavares scored the opening goal, which sealed the victory at the end.
Marner finished the game with a goal and an assist for his 500th point in his 467th NHL start. “It’s a beautiful moment. Of course, I think mainly about the team’s results, but I really appreciate this achievement. It’s even more precious to me because I grew up here and was a Maple Leafs fan from an early age. But we don’t have to settle, there are goals most important things ahead of us,” Marner said. Only Austin Matthews has passed the 500-point mark faster in club history, he did it four days ago in his 445th game.
In the third part of the traditional match against the Rangers, the Devils overcame a two-goal deficit, which was equalized thanks to Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes, and in extra time thanks to Damon Severson’s goal, they came from 1:3. Vaněček led the team to victory in the third game he started and earned his 15th overall win of the season. Thanks to his performances, the Devils are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Carolina failed for the third time in a row, surprisingly losing on ice to Columbus, the worst team in the Eastern Conference, 3:4 after separate raids. The main contribution to the victory of the Blue Jackets was played by Russian striker Kirill Marchenko, who scored the first hat-trick in the 15th game of the NHL. Czech striker Martin Nečas went out without points after seven games. In the final series, he failed to convert a solo run and confirmed the Hurricanes’ third straight loss.
Kevin Fiala also shone with three goals, helping Los Angeles to a 5:1 victory over Las Vegas with his first hat-trick at his new job. The Kings beat the Western Conference leaders for the second time in a row and are just four points behind them in third place.
Not even Tim Stützle’s three goals prevented Ottawa’s home debacle with Seattle. Kraken hockey players defeated the Senators 8:4, won for the fourth time in a row and moved to fifth place in the Western Conference standings. The team from the Canadian capital failed after two victories and remained in thirteenth position in the Eastern Conference.
An 11-goal shootout was offered by Buffalo’s game with Minnesota, in which the home Sabers won overtime and won 6:5. Defender Rasmus Dahlin sealed the win with two goals and three assists, with 44 points the third most productive of the year so far. Buffalo has won eight of its last nine games and is just four points away from the playoff berth.
After five games, defending champions Colorado pulled it off. The Avalanche turned the game around in Edmonton, winning 3-2 in overtime to leapfrog to ninth in the Western Conference. The Oilers are eighth by two points. Czech forward Martin Kaut played three and a half minutes for Colorado.
