Summarizing the information submitted by Latvian radio stations about the songs played on the most popular radio stations last year, the Latvian Association of Performers and Producers (LaIPA) has identified five songs that are eligible for the Latvian Music Record of the Year Award “Golden Microphone” in the category “Radio hits”.
Songs “I Feel That Way” (Katō and ZeBrene), “Carousels” (“Brainstorm”), “Shaman” (Aija Andrejeva and ZeBrene), “You Must Go Further” (Dārta Stepanova and “Dagamba”) and Don “It is written in heaven (The Way of the Milk)”.
As you can see, the mythical musician ZeBrene is represented with two hits, and most interestingly, these two are basically half of all his own songs as a soloist: another “Gadumija” together with Kata, Aija Andrejeva and Andris Freidenfelds.
In order to determine the nominees, LaIPA collected data on the performance of songs on Latvian radio stations in 2021. When evaluating the annual radio hit, the 11 most listened Latvian radio stations were taken into account: Latvijas Radio 5, “Radio Skonto”, “Kurzemes radio”, Latvijas radio 1, Latvijas radio 2, “Radio Star FM”, “Radio SWH”, “Radio TEV”, Latgale Radio, Latvian Radio 6 (Radio NABA) and “EHR Latvian Hits”. To determine the winner in the category of the most played songs by their frequency, the number of times the song is played is multiplied by the ratings of the radio stations. “The nomination” Radio hits “is the most objective to evaluate the popularity of the song among the listeners,” emphasizes LIPA, Executive Director of LaIPA. She points out that the frequency with which a particular song is scanned on radio stations reflects how much a composition is in demand and loved by listeners: , that this year’s winner’s song and, of course, the other nominees will delight Latvian music lovers for a long time to come. ”
This year, the winners of the Latvian Music Record of the Year Award “Golden Microphone” will be announced on February 26 at the Riga Art and Media Technical School. Anyone interested will be able to watch it live on TV3 and TV3play.
Given ZeBrene’s ability to subjugate radio listeners in ways he knows, it won’t be a surprise if he and Aija Andrejeva’s “Shaman”, who just won the fifth place in the “Music Bank”, will be crowned with last year’s “Radio hit”.
