The deal between Ajax and VfB Stuttgart about Borna Sosa is becoming increasingly shady. Football International reported on Thursday afternoon that the Croatian back had been aware of the Amsterdam interest since mid-August.

This is contrary to the reporting of, among others, technical director Sven Mislintat. Sosa would have been added to the roster as a godsend on Deadline Day. Arthur Beck, agent and co-owner of AKA Global – the agency that Sosa joined just before his transfer – said on Wednesday that not Mislintat, but Ajax coach Maurice Steijn wanted to sign Sosa. It is now clear that Steijn was betting on the arrival of Nicolás Tagliafico, while Mislintat had long had his sights set on Sosa.
ICM Stellar, the agency with which Sosa was affiliated until before his transfer, is open about matters. ‘For example, Mislintat already expressed interest in Sosa to the Croat in mid-August, but asked to keep this to themselves, because they only wanted to sign him in the last two days of the transfer period. An earlier transition was not an option and the deal had to go through Beck’, outlines VI.

Stuttgart was very surprised about that. ‘There were also persistent voices that Beck did indeed have a mandate from Ajax and therefore also negotiated on behalf of the Amsterdam club.’ Beck’s role in Sosa’s transfer is therefore extremely dubious. The question is whether financial director Susan Lenderink and the Ajax supervisory board were aware that the agent was negotiating on behalf of the Amsterdammers.
‘In that case, Global’s agent was both an intermediary from Ajax and at the same time an advocate for the player to finalize the contract, which again raises some questions.’
