A local Spanish publication dedicated a few weeks ago several pages to explaining the seven changes that the approval of Brexit would generate. A server read the list of changes, without any of them contributing or having the least significance.
This publication explains that exports to Great Britain are 3.4 percent of the Spanish Gross Domestic Product and that Brexit would be of great importance in this regard.
I am not going to refer only to this publication but to all the media that, for months and years, have been turning this issue into a drama.
I think that, indeed, Brexit has some importance. It is not a trivial matter. But I do not believe, at all, that it can change the history of Spain and the world, or even that it deserves the rivers of ink that have flowed.
Businesses, the economy and society are constantly evolving. The fact that Britain no longer belongs to the European Union means that it will not be so absolutely easy to trade, but you have to count on that, however, there will be no taxes or limitations. Only it will be necessary to present certifications of the operations. If Spain trades without problems with Russia or with Morocco, where there are obstacles of various kinds, what can change in our relationship with Great Britain?
The issue is even more relevant for tourism: Spain – Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Italy or Greece – are destinations to which the British have always traveled. Will the minor differences that will occur from January mean a loss of value for us? In other words, will it be more attractive for a tourist to go to Turkey or Egypt than to Spain from January? Absolutely. The tourist will be able to continue traveling in the same conditions, with changes that he will not appreciate.
The public health care model is even maintained by which the holders of public health in both blocks can enjoy – it seems to me that hospitals do not enjoy, but I think we understand each other – the services in the other block when they meet there.
I would not want to stop denouncing the hysteria that consists of publishing and publishing news, sometimes absurd, about the tremendous effects of the break, effects that never occur.
This media specifically said “seven changes that will affect Spain”, as if someone in our country, from January to notice something significant.
It would not hurt, of course, a little more responsibility. And I include myself.
