The SES satellite network will provide direct access to cloud services on Amazon’s World Wide Web

SES is the first satellite operator to be certified by Amazon as a direct connection provider to the World Wide Web. This will provide SES customers with flexible, secure and reliable access to their cloud computing software and services from virtually anywhere in the world, including remote, rural or other locations with limited or no networking capabilities, allowing network connectivity between office, data center, sharing site or other facilities and AWS at speeds from 50 Mbps to 100 Gbps.

For heavy-duty customers, AWS direct connection provides secure, flexible connections with consistent network performance.

SES will use its direct cloud service to connect customers to AWS data centers in the medium-to-earth (MEO) and geostationary (GEO) satellite network. The direct cloud service will also be available on SES’s next-generation MEO constellation O3b mPOWER, which will be launched later this year. O3b mPOWER will provide SES customers with an ideal cloud connection to the satellite, supporting multi-gigabit services that dynamically adapt to network demand, the company explains.
