More than 17 years ago it came to the world Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, the firstborn of the prince edward and his wife Sophia, Earls of Wessex. That birth is one of the most complicated that has occurred within the royal family in recent decades because the little girl had to be born through an emergency cesarean section after the placental abruption that caused severe blood loss both in the mom and baby.
That event caused Lady Louise to be born weighing 2 kilos 200 grams and was later diagnosed with exotropia, a type of strabismus in one eye that turns towards the nose, “Premature babies can often squint because the eyes they are the last thing in the baby package that is really finished, ”Sofia, Countess of Wessex told The Sunday Express.

According to the National Health Service of Great Britain, NHS for its followings in English, revealed that some ocular complications of this disease if it is not treated immediately can be: inability to process three-dimensional vision, loss of complete perception of the image and the development of amblyopia, that is, decreased clear vision in the child’s crossed eye.

“Her squint was quite deep when she was little and it takes time to correct it,” Prince Edward’s wife commented to said English medium, adding, “You have to make sure that one eye does not become more dominant than the other.”
Over the years Lady Louise had to undergo strictly careful treatment as she developed and in 2014, when she was 10 years old, it was reported that the girl had undergone a second procedure which resulted in a successful outcome. Unlike the first, which has given him the opportunity to improve his eyesight completely.

Before the operation, the NHS reported that children with exotropia would possibly need to wear an eye patch which would help improve their vision only in the narrowed eye although it would not improve the appearance of this eye. “She is fine now, her eyesight is perfect,” revealed her mother Sofia from Wessex, who serves as Global Ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.
