The main character in a series is key to its success. He (or she) must possess qualities that engage the audience with his (her) actions and fate, so that the show can be continued with second, third and other seasons.
However, there are cases in which successful series with several seasons abruptly change their main character.
This is most often imposed because of the actor himself – either at his own request, because he is tired of the role despite the juicy fees, or at the request of the studio because of a scandal that they do not want to damage the show.
So suddenly supporting characters are “promoted” or viewers have to get used to a whole new face. In both cases, it rarely works, and after a few more years, the series is still discontinued.
