To update and improve the development, editing and production of free textbooks (LTG) and teaching materials adapted to the braille system and large print format, the first virtual forum for social participation in learning by students with visual disabilities and blindness was held.
With this, the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) seeks to guarantee educational materials that respond to the learning needs of the population to which they are directed, so the adaptation must preserve the didactic intention proposed in the textbook prepared in ink.
The objective of the forum was to learn about the current panorama of strategies, research, innovations, recommendations, experiences and proposals regarding education for people with visual disabilities.

More than 70 speakers participated, distributed in 10 conferences, 12 dialogue tables and nine testimonials from people who live with a visual disability or live with them.
Through this meeting, information was collected to improve the development, editing and production of LTG and teaching materials adapted to the braille system and large print format.
The forum was open to all those involved and interested in the education of people with low vision or blindness, where their experiences were received through written or video participation.
In response to the call, more than 100 proposals were received, including narratives, research, anecdotes, videos and presentations by girls, boys and young people from different states of the country.
The experiences of fathers and mothers of families, researchers, teachers, specialists and managers of private organizations and civil society organizations, universities and people who work in national and regional agreements were also gathered; all with valuable proposals and strategies to improve the education of people living with visual disabilities.

The proposals received will be valued and taken into account by the SEP, for the updating of didactic materials adapted to the braille system and large print format.
According to the National Survey of Demographic Dynamics of the Inegi, more than five thousand children and adolescents between 5 and 17 years old have some type of disability. Of them, 32.6 percent have visual impairment, even wearing glasses.
For the 2020-2021 school year, the National Book Commission of free text (Conaliteg) delivered 13 thousand 848 books in braille system. Of these, nine thousand 980 correspond to primary and three thousand 868 to secondary students from all over the country.
It also distributed 100,775 books in large print format; of these, 72 thousand 676 correspond to primary and 28 thousand 99 to secondary
