“The sentences must be exemplary”claims Sunday November 3 on franceinfo, Kaouther Ben Mohamed, president of the Marseille association in anger, a few days before the opening of the trial of the collapse of buildings on rue d’Aubagne in the city center in Marseille , which will be held from November 7 to December 18. By November 5, 2018, eight people had died. A walk “for justice and for decent housing” is organized on Sunday, November 3 in Marseille by the “Collectif du 5 Novembre: Noailles enanger”.

Kaouther Ben Mohamed expects sentences from this trial “which are exemplary and not symbolic, so that it is a deterrent force” especially for “sleep merchants, unions who look the other way, elected officials who don’t do their job”. She wants the sanctions “serve as an example to future fraudsters, that they know what they risk and that it will not go unpunished”. She therefore calls on justice to respond firmly to this event which has “traumatized the city”.

The angry president of Marseille also denounced the inaction of the State and municipalities, “it doesn’t matter under what governance, whether they are right or left”. “We have elected officials who are not courageous”she says. Faced with the poor housing crisis, she is indignant at elected officials who speak of“budget balances, when we talk about securing innocent people”. According to her, “the duty of legal substitution”which requires communities, when an owner is in default, to take charge of the work, “is not assured today”.

The president of “Marseille enanger” recalls that poor housing is not new and affects well beyond Marseille, “for decades”. “Not all tenants are protected”she insists. “It remains completely incomprehensible to die at home like that”concludes Kaouther Ben Mohamed.
