The sentences imposed on former Pakistani Prime Minister Khan have been suspended

(ANSA) – ISLAMABAD, 01 APR – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended the 14-year sentences imposed on former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the case concerning the alleged sale of state gifts. However, Imran Khan, 71, is subject to two other sentences in two separate cases: 10 years in prison for having disclosed confidential documents and seven years for illegal marriage. These three convictions were announced a few days before the legislative elections on 8 February, for which Khan was unable to stand because he had been in prison since August and was ineligible. Khan blames the army for his legal problems, which he says were aimed at preventing his return to power. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the anti-corruption watchdog, had filed a case against the couple and alleged that during his tenure as prime minister, Imran and his wife had received a total of 108 gifts from different heads of State and foreign dignitaries.
