The plenary session of the Senate unanimously ratified this morning the appointments of Ana Luisa Vallejo Barba as consul of Mexico in San Francisco, California, and of Humberto Hernández Haddad, as consul in Austin, Texas.
The president of the Board of Directors, Ana Lilia Rivera Rivera, took the corresponding protest of law before the Assembly and wished them success in their new diplomatic positions.
Senator Gina Andrea Cruz Blackledge, president of the North American Foreign Relations Commission, highlighted that both profiles have the experience and capacity to take charge of diplomatic representations.
He considered that an extra effort will be necessary in the consular representation in Austin, since in Texas there has been an attempt to implement legislation that would violate the human rights of the thousands of fellow citizens who live there.
Vallejo Barba has been part of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1994. She served as director of Frontera Sur when the negotiations and signing of the peace agreements between the government and the Guatemalan guerrilla took place. She also worked at the Mexican embassy in the aforementioned Central American country, where she was responsible for political affairs. Since October 2020 she has been consul in Rio de Janeiro.
As for Hernández Haddad, he has been a representative, senator and consul in San Antonio, Texas. Likewise, he was Undersecretary of Tourism and general coordinator of the Tourism Diplomacy Council.
He published the books “Colosio and Ruiz Massieu, 20 years later” and “Lost Link”.
