The selection of jurors in the long-awaited lawsuit filed by actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, has begun, the Associated Press reported.
Depp is suing Hurd for defamation because she portrays him as a domestic abuser in an article in the Washington Post published in 2018. In it, the actress presents herself as a public figure who became a victim of domestic violence. Depp’s name is not mentioned in the publication, but he said her words clearly point to accusations that Hurd has made elsewhere and that she was a victim of physical violence at his hands. Depp denies the allegations.
Just over ten women, some with “Justice for Johnny” posters, joined other fans of the actor waving pirate flags in honor of Johnny Depp’s iconic role in the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” before the Fairfax court in Virginia before the start at the hearing.
Judge Penny Asarate imposed special rules on the case, which brought Hollywood’s brilliance to the court, which mainly deals with criminal cases. According to the rules, Depp and Hurd are not allowed to pose for photos or sign autographs in court.
The case is expected to be heard for more than a month.
