“We have to stay positive”
After the sobering defeat last Sunday at the Eisbären Regensburg, there are still arithmetical chances for 10th place, but there should be a lot going on for the Selber Wolves in the remaining four game days. Nevertheless, the wolf pack wants to keep the minimal chance. It’s also about getting at least the best possible starting position for the impending playdowns and going into crunch time with a good feeling.
Formkurve
“The Weekend of Truth” was scheduled for the Selber Wolves last weekend. With two victories against the Lausitzer Füchse and the Eisbären Regensburg, both direct competitors for 10th place, you would have been in really good business for the longed-for pre-playoff place. But it should only be enough to win at home after a penalty shoot-out against the foxes. So disillusionment set in when everyone left the Donau-Arena on Sunday evening with empty hands and hanging heads. But attaching is never an option for Selber Wolves. A major shortcoming is currently the loading jam on the offensive. The few goals scored in recent games were mostly scored by defenders. Defensively, on the other hand, they are quite stable.
Statistik
So far, the Selber Wolves (ranked 13th) have room for improvement against their two opponents from the weekend. The people from Porzellanstadt have only scored one point against the Heilbronner Falken (12th), but against ESV Kaufbeuren (2nd) they have at least two points. The wolves no longer need to hide completely when it comes to the special teams. Here you have worked your way up to 10th place in the power play with a rate of 19.6%. The falcons are strong in this discipline, taking first place with a success rate of 26.6%. Kaufbeuren ranks 5th here with 24.3%. The Allgäu are outnumbered with 87.9% league leaders. Selb is second with 82.7% and Heilbronn is 12th with only 72.7%. The current top scorers in the teams are Alexander Tonge (16 goals, 38 assists) in Heilbronn and Jacob Lagacé (15 goals, 37 assists) in Kaufbeuren. and at Selb Mark McNeill (27 goals, 19 assists).
Steven Deeg looks ahead
Steven Deeg: “To be honest, we played a terrible game in Regensburg. In 5v5, Regensburg were clearly the better team. Nevertheless, we still had the chance to win the game or at least get into extra time, but we didn’t take advantage of that either. Of course we didn’t show the performance we wanted to put on the ice. Precisely because it was the most important game for us this season so far. In addition, the many fans who came to Regensburg to support us didn’t deserve to be given such a poor performance. Nevertheless, the atmosphere in the team is not bad. We have to stay positive and keep moving forward. There are always so many ups and downs in a season. It doesn’t help us any further if we deal with our achievements from the past. Our goal is to play well in the last four games and see where we are after that. We have a difficult weekend ahead of us. Heilbronn is just ahead of us in the table, so it will be a very important game for us on Friday at the Falken. We know we haven’t played well against Heilbronn this season, so we have to be ready for a hard-fought game. On Sunday we expect Kaufbeuren, one of the top teams in the league, to be at home. They are fast, physically strong and have few weaknesses. That’s why we have to prepare well for this challenge. As I said, we have a difficult weekend and four difficult games ahead of us. We must stay positive and move forward. Then we’ll see where we end up in the table and what challenge we have to face.”
Lineup
With the exception of Feodor Boiarchinov, Max Gimmel and Martin Hlozek (all injured), head coach Sergej Wassmiller has a full squad to fall back on.
(VIP) tickets/hall opening
Tickets for the game on Sunday against ESV Kaufbeuren are available online in advance at https://www.selberwoelfe.de/tickets/, at EDEKA Egert in Selb am Vorwerk or in Sparneck at IT-Solutions Lauterbach. The box office will also open. Both games will also be broadcast live on Sprade TV and excerpts on Radio Euroherz Eiszeit. Sunday’s game starts at 5:00 p.m. The NETZSCH Arena opens its doors at 4:00 p.m.
Another important note on the catering offer for the next two games: As one of the suppliers is unable to attend the next two home games due to illness, unfortunately no pizza or sandwiches can be offered. The rest of the range is available as usual – also thanks to a substitute supplier for the baked goods.
Season or VIP ticket holders can use the entrance at the former stadium restaurant.
Furthermore, daily VIP cards are available in a very limited number. In addition to entry to the game, these include access to the VIP area, free food and drinks in the VIP area and a seat in the VIP grandstand. A day ticket costs EUR 110.00. Please email inquiries directly to Tobias Ernstberger (t.ernstberger@selberwoelfe.de).
