The head of the Lithuanian Seimas Committee on National Security and Defense, Laurynas Kasciunas, has prepared amendments that will limit the ability of newly arrived citizens of Belarus to obtain temporary resident status in the country.
This was reported by “European Truth” with reference to LRT.
Kasciunas promises to register the relevant amendments in the Seimas in the near future.
He emphasized that the measures he is preparing will not apply to Belarusians who were repressed by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
“It is very important to emphasize that we continue to support the humanitarian corridor. That is, if these are really human rights defenders, people repressed by the Belarusian regime, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be able to provide such a humanitarian corridor. And regarding temporary residence, we make one remark – for qualified labor,” said Kasciunas.
According to him, the amendments are aimed at a group of Belarusians isolated by the Lithuanian security services, which is the target of the Belarusian special services.
The deputy believes that these measures will help reduce threats to both the security of Lithuania and the Belarusian opposition in the country.
Let us recall that recently the head of the Lithuanian State Security Department Darius Jauniskis said that the KGB of Belarus significantly strengthened their activities in their country.
Before that Lithuania recognized as a threat national security of more than two thousand Belarusians and Russians.
