The Security Council welcomes the agreement on the demarcation of the maritime border between Lebanon and Israel

UNITED NATIONS, October 19, 2022 (Xinhua) On Wednesday, the Security Council welcomed the agreement between Lebanon and Israel on the settlement of the maritime border dispute.

In a press release, members of the Security Council praised statements that Lebanon and Israel had agreed to end their maritime border dispute and permanently delineate them.

The statement stated: “This is an important step that will contribute to the stability, security and prosperity of the region. It will also benefit the two countries and their peoples and will enable both sides to benefit from the energy resources of the Eastern Mediterranean in a way fair”.

On 11 October, the leaders of Lebanon and Israel announced that the two countries had agreed to resolve their decade-long maritime border dispute in the eastern Mediterranean.
