Faced with the overstaffing at the Jardin des Plantes college, the parents of students in part of the urban sector of Poitiers will have to choose between Jean-Moulin Poitiers and Jules-Verne Buxerolles. A measure applicable until the start of the 2024 school year.
Adopted in April 2018, the sectorization of the public colleges of Vienne has since been constantly modified. In February 2021, the Department had been forced to push back the calendar for the Poitiers sector and neighboring municipalities to September 1, 2022. In question, the delay in delivery of the new college Josphine-Baker, Vouneuil-sous-Biard, which is scheduled to open on Monday 2 May.
The students of the Charles-Perrault school concerned
This time, it was the college of the Jardin des Plantes Poitiers which forced the departmental council, which met on Thursday March 17, to review its copy once again. Indeed, this school, considered “extremely attractive with its class schedule arranged musical” by Henri Colin, vice-president in charge of education, registers “requests for exemption which make that the numbers are important (1)”. “Gold, the capacity should be limited to a maximum of 500 students in relation to the number of classrooms available”he warns.
The community therefore decided, after the favorable opinion of the CDEN (Departmental Commission for National Education) of March 9to postpone the sectorization measure for part of the urban sector of Poitiers at the Jardin des Plantes college to September 1, 2024. Consequence for the families of students, in particular at the Charles-Perrault school: for two years, they will have to choose between Jean-Moulin Poitiers or Jules-Verne Buxerolles colleges.
A lack of anticipation for the opposition
A measure taken “lately” according to Ludovic Devergne (Poitiers-2), from the Vienne group in transition. “We do not deny the difficulties in terms of reception capacity. We know that the numbers are overcrowded. But this difficulty could have been better anticipated. Because the impact is important for the students concerned”, regrets the one who opposed four years ago the new sectorization of public colleges. “I had alerted the president at the time (Editor’s note: Bruno Belin) to the weakness of the school map. It was a political fault”, he assures.
In the sights of the elected opposition member and her partner, Sarah Rhallab, the lack of will on the social mix within schools; the Jardin des Plantes being the college “which has the highest social index in Vienne”, while Jules-Verne is the opposite. For his part, Alain Pichon disclaims all responsibility. “I don’t want to stigmatize any municipality. But there is one where half the population does not want the children to go to Jules-Verne”, observes the president of the Department.
(1) The Jardin des Plantes college had 577 students in September 2021, compared to 747 for Jean-Moulin and 531 for Jules-Verne.The other hot spots of the departmental council
> Volley. Not yet open, the Futuroscope Arena has landed a nice coup by hosting, from May 16 to 29, the French volleyball team. The national team will complete a training camp followed by two friendly matches against the Netherlands on 27 and 29 May. To receive the Olympic champions, the Department must pay €70,000 to the federation. Not to the taste of the Vienna group in transition which, through the voice of Florence Harris (Poitiers-2), denounces “an irresponsible choice”.
> Maison-Dieu of Montmorillon. This is an important step in the Jol-Robuchon Institute project: the departmental council has approved an agreement for the conversion of the Maison-Dieu site, Montmorillon, into a training hotel-restaurant. A project that also associates the state, the community of municipalities Vienne and Gartempe, the municipality of Montmorillon and the public land establishment Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
> Aroport. The subject was not on the agenda of the standing committee. But Anthony Brottier (Poitiers-1) took advantage of the motorway debate to discuss the future of Poitiers-Biard airport. Worried by “the recovery work” and “the demagogic position” of Grand Poitiers, the elected official calls on Alain Pichon: “It is essential that the Department regain control quickly and firmly on this file.” Response from the president: “The situation is complex. I am working hard to ensure that things go well. This is an essential development for the department, the territory and its inhabitants. I will not change my mind on this. “
> Ukraine. The announcement was made on March 8, during the rally in support of the Ukrainian people: the departmental council decided, in a standing committee, to release exceptional aid of €30,000. For the time being, two subsidies have already been allocated: €7,000 to the Free Ukraine Association, which is mobilizing to welcome Ukrainian families, and €5,000 to the University Hospital of Poitiers, which has sent a convoy of medicines and medical equipment.
