Former Lidl employees have exposed some of the clever tactics the German retailer uses to persuade customers to spend their money.
The secret trick of LIDL Romania was found out
Lidl has become a strong competitor since the 1990s. Lidl also wants to expand in the UK, with another 1,000 stores planned by 2023. Former employees and industry experts have revealed hidden secrets about Lidl. Some of the smart tactics that Lidl uses to attract customers to buy more than they wanted have been exposed.
Normally, you expect prices to be right below the product, in what is called a “shelf edge label,” but Lidl often puts its prices above the product, mirror.co.uk.
This can lead to some confusion, and customers do not know what they are paying before they get home.
“You just have to be careful, because you could spend more than you thought,” says consumer psychologist Phil Adcock.
Most supermarkets use classic wire baskets, which are about the same size, but Lidl does things differently. They offer deeper plastic baskets with extendable wheels and handles so customers don’t have to pick them up. This means that a small store can turn into a sea because shoppers don’t realize how much they’ve put in.
“Pull this thing on wheels so you get more into it, without realizing how hard it is. When you get home, you may find that you have spent twice as much, ”Phil explained.
Schawrz Group, over 12,000 stores in over 30 countries
No matter how fast you pack, it’s very unlikely you’ll be able to keep up with Lidl’s highly efficient, fast-scanning staff.
“Then you take your basket and the cart and put them on a shelf by the window to solve them leisurely after you’ve been home. This means that Lidl can serve more people quickly. “
Lidl is part of the Schwarz group, which is the fourth largest retail player in the world, so there is a tradition of bulk buying and selling cheap. Schawrz owns over 12,000 stores in over 30 countries.
We remind you that in Romania, Lidl entered the local market in 2010, when it took over from the Tengelmann group the approximately 100 discount stores Plus. During 2011, the Plus stores were renamed Lidl, and this year, the network reached over 290 stores, 5 logistics offices and over 9000 employees.
