The fairy tale Dařbuján and Pandrhola (1960) belongs to the golden fund of Czech cinematography and cannot be missing in many Czech families every Christmas. Jiří Sovák represents the wrecker and later the healer Kuba Dařbuján, helped by the godfather Smrťák to heal the right people. He was the representative of the second character, Václav Lohniský († 59), who died twenty years after the fairy tale in dramatic circumstances. What did the witness – director Zdeněk Troška (69) tell eXtra.cz?
Zdeněk Troška on the death of Václav Lohniský: his dolls were spinning
Zdeněk Troška he was then assistant director at the film Krakonoš and the skiers and coincidentally with by the great actor Václav Lohniský (†59) spent the last moments of his life.
“With Mr. Lohnisky, I climbed the hill from which he was supposed to descend for the raid against Krakonosh, the sugar smuggler. let’s go talk Mr. Lohniský was carrying skis. Along the way I got very upset with the walkie-talkie not working. I was nervous about how I would negotiate with the crew below the hill if it didn’t work out. AND suddenly I noticed that Mr. Lohniský stopped, stopped and lookedso I continued to be angry with the radio”, recalls Troška for eXtra.cz, for which, as we wrote earlier, it was terrible experience.
“I told him I didn’t feel well, let him go and see, e at that moment I realized that he was no longer standing, but lying on the snow, still with his skis on his feet. I was surprised that he was resting like that that winter, I go to him and I am already he saw how his dolls spun, so it was immediately clear to me that he was sick“, continues the director.
Hopeless resurrection and helplessness
“I still couldn’t call anyone. And I’ll tell you: impotence is terrible. Fortunately, I was then noticed by the prop maker Luboš, who came to me, and together we tried to resurrect Mr. Lohniský. But it was too late”, he adds sadly.
“Then we found out this was possibly his fourth heart attack, so he was hopeless. Even though he was often cast as negative characters, he was an incredibly kind and pleasant person. And a good one. He was extremely educated, a wonderful gentleman. In the evenings we sat together and talked. At the time I was preparing the film Shepherd of the Valley. They told me I should do it, so we agreed that he would play there for me. But in the end they made the same mistake with me in Barrandov and František Vláčil shot on target,” Troška added.
