The Secret of Krakonoš is the most viewed fairy tale on December 25 in 25 years

The Secret of Krakonoš, which premiered on ČT1 channel on Sunday, was filmed by director Peter Bebjak. Krakonoš was played by David Švehlík, and other roles featured Jakub Prachař, Ondřej Sokol, Jan Nedbal, Leona Skleničková or Martin Huba.

“In my opinion, the secret of Krakonosh has all the attributes of an attractive and genre contemporary fairy tale,” Bebjak said during the shooting.

“Just like on Christmas day, yesterday (Sunday), nine of the top ten ratings were occupied by programs broadcast on ČT1,” the spokeswoman added.

According to the data on the server Media Guru After Krakonoš’s secret in the ranking in second place by far was Maria Poledňáková’s classic comedy How to Pull a Stool from a Whale from 1977. It was watched by about 1.27 million viewers in the age group of 15 years and over Sunday afternoon on ČT1, while the secret of Krakonoš in about three million people watched in this age group.

In addition to ČT1’s fairy tales and comedies, only one fairy tale from another channel entered the top ten, namely Nebojs from 1988, broadcast in prime time on Nova, in tenth place.

The Secret of Krakonoš far surpassed another Czech TV fairy tale – The Secret of Old Bambitka 2 – which aired this year on ČT1 on Christmas Day. It was watched by around 2.5 million viewers over the age of 15, or 60% of all who had their TVs on after 7.00pm on 24 December. “The fairy tale Old Bambitka 2 was also the most interesting for children, being watched by 281,000 children between the ages of four and 12, with an audience share of 70 percent,” said Blinkova.
