The second life of the refrigerator. What happens to the things in the sorting containers?

What happens to these things after that?

– After being placed in the “Eco Baltia vide” container, the textile products are taken to Tukuma, where there is a sorting shop where textiles are sorted into approximately 30 different types of categories. Winter, summer, men’s, women’s, pants, dresses, etc. Some of the clothes will not be useful anywhere, so they are waste. Another part goes to donations, because the clothes are in very good condition. And now with these clothes we are helping the refugees of the Ukrainian war as part of the charity campaign “Open your heart, open your closet”! Please bring your tired or unnecessary, but still high-quality clothes, shoes, home textiles and leave them in the nearest sorting container. According to the latest data, 36-44 are currently the most lacking. sizes of shoes for men and women, as well as tracksuits.

The rest of the textiles are diverted for recycling and re-wearing. Some go to third countries, where people do not have such high demands on the quality of worn clothes or shoes. The shoes are size 38, but the heels are worn out? It’s nothing, the main thing is that there are shoes. Unfortunately, the needs are different. And we cannot measure everyone only by the population of Latvia.

That is, you can not only put good clothes in these red containers, but you should. Containers may be different colors in different locations and do not necessarily have the words “donations” written on them. But the point is the same. That is why we want the system to be unified. Not that we bring the bad here, but the good elsewhere. Sorting is done in Latvia, but there is no textile processing yet, we are cooperating with Finland. But if the collection system is implemented, the processing plant could eventually be in Latvia as well. It’s in the same category: why take the wood out of the country when we can make the furniture ourselves and resell it with more added value?
