The Community of municipalities of Vimeu and Archipop reluctantly decided to cancel the evening presentation of the DVD “The Vimeu, a Picardy story. Cultures and traditions ”, initially scheduled for Wednesday December 16, 2020. The film, the second on local traditions, was shot in the area, with the support of historical and local contributors.
This DVD is the result of five years of work, and returns in pictures on the cultural life of the Vimeusiens, from the 1930s to the 1980s. Parties, sports and leisure are in the spotlight, highlighting a very rich cultural life.
A rich cultural life
As the local historians pointed out during the filming Maxime Patte and Julien Cahon, the inhabitants were very fond of sports competitions, especially football and cycling, and popular festivals. Unfortunately, this vibrant cultural life has lost some of its luster in recent years.
Among other things, we see in the images Archives of the Mignon Palace, located in Friville-Escarbotin, a very popular performance venue at the time, before closing its doors in the 1970s.
A lively place where Vimeusiens flocked eager to relax after the day’s work. They would then attend theatrical performances and even wrestling matches. The facade of this legendary place, still as it is today, testifies to this joyful era, which is no doubt over.
If the presentation evening of December 16 could not take place, the DVD will still be bookable, by sending an email to [email protected] or from the reception of the Community of communes of Vimeu (CCV). It is on sale for 15 euros (payment by check or in cash). The first edition, the DVD “Le Vimeu, une histoire picarde. Between agriculture and industry ”, is also on sale on site.
This first opus devoted to the local industrial past, to the working life of its workers and farmers, revisited the role of Vimeu, the cradle of locksmiths and valves.
Two DVDs co-produced by the CCV and the Archipop association, whose mission is to collect, save, conserve, document and enhance the film and audiovisual archives in Picardy.
