Due to the inaccessibility of the crack, the crew tried to apply sealant using special plates. It was not possible to do this on the first attempt.
Russian cosmonauts on the International Space Station (ISS) covered the second crack in the intermediate chamber of the Zvezda module with a special sealant. It is reported by Interfax on Tuesday, March 9th.
“Thank you very much for your work, Sergei (cosmonaut Ryzhikov – ed.). Tomorrow we will apply layer number two,” said the MCC representative.
It is indicated that due to the inaccessibility of the crack, the crew tried to apply the sealant using special plates. On the first attempt, it was not possible to do this, most of the sealant remained on the plate. After that, it was suggested to use special tapes.
Recall March 4 the first crack was covered with sealant on the ISS… A few days before this, the crew conducted a special training session.
In August 2020, the first crack with a size of about 4 cm was discovered on the ISS.It was repaired in November with temporary means. After that, the rate of pressure drop on the ISS decreased, but did not completely disappear. Later the crew identified a few more likely locationswhere cracks can be located.
As reported, February 17 “truck” Progress delivered materials to the ISS to seal the crack. At the same time, the ship could not dock in automatic mode.
