During his only engagement outside Brazil, Fred won the French Ligue 1 with Lyon from 2006 to 2008, as well as the cup competition there once. He spent only four seasons in Europe and scored 34 goals in 87 league matches there, after his return he won two titles in the Brazilian Serie A with Fluminense (2010, 2012) and the domestic cup with Cruzeiro (2018), in which he is the record holder with 37 goals.

He did not celebrate so many successes in the national team, although he played in 39 matches and scored 18 goals. He was in Brazil’s Copa América victory in 2007, but only as an unused substitute, but in 2013 he contributed five goals to the FIFA Cup triumph. He played his last representative match a year later in the semi-finals of the World Cup, in which the Brazilians suffered a humiliating debacle 1:7 against the Germans. The “Canaries” at the home championship ended up in fourth place after a 0:3 defeat by the Netherlands in the duel for bronze.
