The season ends around October 10

Silistar beach remains cut off after the flooding along the Southern Black Sea coast due to the destroyed bridge. Clearing continues in the affected villages and campsites.

It is still dangerous to enter the sea.

“The season will end around October 8-10. We have seen such disasters in other years, they do not change the picture of tourism. We are witnessing a rapid recovery or the attitudes of tourists are not affected by what happened before. About 50,000 vacationers are affected, but at the same time many volunteers went to the affected region. The more people go there, the more in the reserved part of these places, where there are restaurants and accommodation, are used. Visiting relatives and friends is part of tourism,” commented Rumen Draganov, director of the Institute for Analyzes and Evaluations in Tourism, in the Bulgaria Morning studio.

It is the disaster that will prolong the stay of many people in the affected area, the guest is emphatic.

“We have an increase in tourists. The first months of the year moved with very large increases, around 60%. Summer was up about 20% from last year. This year we will not be able to overcome the negatives of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. The recovery according to the mathematical model is in 2024, i.e. it’s not a surprise,” Draganov explained to Bulgaria ON AIR.

He is of the opinion that the tour operators have dealt with the situation on the Southern Black Sea coast.

“Good organization and change of location is required. Tour operators take everything. Everything was well organized,” noted Draganov.

According to him, the affected rest stations and hotels will deal first of all with their own forces.

“Clearing work has started immediately. Everyone with their own resources first saves what they have. Compensations and insurances follow,” specified the director of the Institute for Analyzes and Evaluations in Tourism.

Few people insure their properties nowadays, noted Draganov.

“Forget the hope that you will get the money altogether. There are two mechanisms. If you are not insured, you pay and reimburse yourself. If you are insured, you get an insurance amount, but the destroyed is for disposal. Insurance can be taken out for peace of mind. The benefits are received from the Ministry of Social Affairs. There are grants in various sizes and they are awarded by committees. This aid is insufficient,” he commented.

About 120,000 Bulgarians were on vacation in Greece in the last month, data from the national statistics show, and 450,000 beds were filled in Sunny Beach per day, Draganov also pointed out.

“Everyone prefers Greece, but cannot afford it,” added the guest.
