The sea urchin ate the popsicles. Poisonous, but very tasty, say the fishermen – 2024-08-03 18:47:34

Recently, the poppets in Burgas are a corner, say the sea wolves. Recently, a fish that is generally not so well-known among laymen has drastically increased its population in the Black Sea, and this leads to the surprising absence of the beloved rump, which turns out to be one of the main foods of sea urchins, which not only eat large fish, but they also attack their spawn.

The scorpide, also called by experienced fishermen such as Emil Andonov as “sea urchin” or “sea scorpion”, is a predatory sea fish that has a very specific appearance. She has sharp and poisonous spines all over her back which, if not careful, can land you in the hospital. In addition, depending on exactly what rock it lives next to – it is a demersal fish – the color of its skin and scales changes. From pale pink to brown, which makes it an extremely interesting look.

“Really in recent years, we’ve noticed that we’re catching scorpida a lot more often. You throw a pop bait and pull out a hedgehog, in whose mouth you find the pop. Sometimes even a safrid becomes a victim of this predatory fish. It’s very interesting when you catch it – it bristles all over and you have to be careful how you hold it, because you can get caught on the spikes”, says Emil Andonov, who was on a boat in the sea and managed to catch nearly 40 large specimens of scorpid, writes “Flagman”.

In fact, one can really get poisoned by touching this fish, but on the other hand, if handled carefully, it is very tasty. The toxin in the spines can cause a very serious allergic reaction that can land a person who has never been exposed to the poison in the hospital.

But if cooked properly, scorpide is a delicacy that is hard to resist. Its meat can be used as an additive in fish soup, but this is not the best way to enjoy the rich flavor of this species.

“It’s tastiest fried in a pan. First, the head is removed and the skin is peeled. Then it is fried, there is nothing complicated, but it is really a great delicacy”, says Andonov.

Large specimens of the species weigh between 120 and 150 grams on average, and a kilo is sold for approximately BGN 15 in stores.
