Scotland, out of the race for the title, returned to victory by inflicting on Italy, already promised in last place, its fifth defeat (52-10) and the heaviest of the 2021 Tournament, yesterday in Edinburgh. The Transalpins finished for the sixth consecutive year with the wooden spoon and also broke the sad records for the most points conceded (239) and tries conceded (34) in the competition.
After opening the scoring on a carried ball (7-0, 6), Italy quickly suffered the Scottish impact which allowed the premises to ensure the offensive bonus before the break (24-10). Often penalized, especially by three yellow cards, Italy could not upset the Scots frustrated by their narrow defeats at home against Wales (24-25) and Ireland (24-27).
This river victory will not appease the regrets of Scotland, who attacked the Tournament with a marked success against England (11-6), defending champion, their first in London since 1983.
Italy, after losing 40 points against France, 38 against Ireland, 41 against Wales, and therefore 42 against XV du Chardon, showed great consistency in the bad performance, the – 23 against England almost passing for a close match.
