The creation of a unified payment system within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is being considered informally, said the organization’s Secretary General Zhang Ming.
According to him, work is now continuing to increase the share of national currencies in mutual settlements, as well as the move to the free movement of goods, technologies and services throughout the SCO.
“In 2022, the Samarkand conference was successfully held, where the concept of increasing the share of payments in national currencies was adopted. There is also a special working group with the participation of representatives from central banks and finance ministries of states. Work on this line is actively underway. As for non-governmental institutions, our SCO interbank association is also dealing with this issue. Of course, this is not an easy task. We now face a number of problems, and much more work needs to be done on political coordination. I am sure that work in this direction will continue.” — quoting the words of the Secretary General of the SCO Channel 5.
One of the group’s main tasks now is to create a more rational and equitable world order, Zhang Ming said.
