The Science of Love: What Matters Most in a Relationship?

What is most important to you in a relationship with your loved one?

Recently, it is fashionable to talk about love from the point of view of biology. Scientists study the chemical processes that occur in the human brain and body during falling in love, derive formulas, and create classifications. To the question “How did you feel when you were in love with someone?” most people will answer that it was difficult for them to focus on one thing, their heartbeat quickened, their palms became wet, “butterflies fluttered” in their stomach. Many respondents also mention lack of appetite, insomnia and, for all that, energy coming from nowhere. According to American anthropologist Helen Fisher, the signs of falling in love are the same for all people – regardless of their age, gender, nationality. Fisher conducted an experiment – she created a special questionnaire and offered to fill it out with representatives of two groups. The first of them consisted of 437 Americans, the second – 402 Japanese. The results showed that men and women from different cultures experience roughly the same feelings when they are in love. For example, 64% of men and 68% of women surveyed admitted that when they hear the voice of a dear person, their heart rate increases. What is the most important thing for you in love?
