At the end of the year it goes back to the Matrix and thus the most stylish sci-fi film of the 90s is continued. Now there is a new trailer for “Matrix: Resurrections”. Will the late sequel live up to the hype?
Although he had sacrificed himself for peace between humans and machines in “Matrix 3: Revolutions”, Neo (Keanu Reeves) seems to be alive again in “Matrix 4: Resurrections”. The late Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) is also back and apparently lives again in the illusory world with which machines will control us humans in the future. How that can be is likely to be speculated on the Internet again after the new trailer.

The disappointment after the hype?
“Matrix 4” is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The franchise created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski was one of the first in which massive expectations of the sequel, cultivated on the Internet, turned into great disappointment when “Matrix Reloaded” in 2003 went in a different direction than some fans had imagined.
The cool staged Mindfuck thriller “Matrix” followed with “Reloaded” and “Revolutions”, two sequels full of sweeping action sequences, philosophical conversations and a bunch of new characters. You can miss the elegant stringency of the first film there, but Lana and Lilly Wachowski did their own thing here.
And in retrospect, the double of “Reloaded” and “Revolutions” was just a foretaste of the crazy, headstrong style that later broke into “Speed Racer”, “Cloud Atlas” and “Jupiter Ascending”.
Lana Wachowski staged “Matrix 4” without her sister, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she delivers a headstrong sequel in the tradition of the other Wachowski films and not a run-of-the-mill legacy sequel.
