As reported by the municipality of Oberglatt, the construction of a second school unit is being considered to cover the long-term needs of school space.

Due to the growing number of pupils in the municipality of Oberglatt, long-term planning is required in addition to the short-term expansion of the Bachtel II school building.

The existing primary school complex on Hofstetterstrasse has reached its capacity limit with around 660 pupils and around 130 employees.

The result of an evaluation of possible future school models and school locations has already been presented to the population.

The city council and the primary school administration are convinced that the right time has come to think about decentralized school units and thus lighten the central school system.

A plot of land in Erlenstrasse is regarded as a second school location

An initial feasibility study showed that a possible location for a second school in Erlenstrasse should be investigated.

This would also be suitable as a day school unit.

In addition, a work area and a meeting point could also be built on the property.

However, the property has not yet been zoned at this time.

While the zone change is being requested, plans have already been pushed forward

The change of zone will be requested from the Canton as part of the revision of the building and urban planning regulations.

However, the plan should be pushed forward.

To this end, a selection process is foreseen, followed by the project planning for the construction of a new primary school unit, the collection point and the factory building in Erlenstrasse, as well as the construction of a new gymnasium and the extension of the elementary school in Hofstetterstrasse.

A loan of CHF 600,000 is required for the selection process

For the selection procedure, a loan of CHF 600,000 will be requested in a first phase at the municipal assembly on 7 December 2022.

It is expected that in December 2024 a loan of 1.2 million for the project will then be submitted for approval by the municipal assembly.

According to the calendar, the construction loan vote is scheduled for 2025.
