Ivan Kraan knows well what he wants at his campsite and in the associated restaurant. He explains this in detail to the hired chef Mike. The best man, who claims to have years of experience, is told how to prepare fresh fries and pre-breaded schnitzels. “We fold it in half with ham and cheese in between and then you have a cordon bleu,” Ivan instructs him about the Dutch meal that the Kraantjes want to serve their camping guests.
Clear language, but the chef still has a lot of stress in the kitchen when the schnitzels are ordered by the first guests. They still need to be thawed at that time. Mike says he was ‘quite nervous’ while preparing the order.
Linda also puts it to the test herself. “What a piece,” she says about the schnitzel she is served. After her first bite, she appears not to be enthusiastic yet. “Honest answer: it’s tasty, but it went a little too fast. I hate to say it, but I have to be honest.” Yet she remains confident in the kitchen. “You have to get to know the stove, get to know the pans, get to know the meat, because every schnitzel is different. But otherwise it’s fine.”
Unfortunately, viewers make a judgment without having tasted it. ‘Stress about two schnitzels. Where did they get that cook?’ it sounds critical. People also laugh at Ivan, who explains to the cook how cooking works.
The Kraantjes have now responded to the schnitzel-gate. ‘We laughed so hard last night about the bumbling in the kitchen,’ write Ivan and Linda. They want to make it clear that things are now going better in the kitchen: ‘The bumbling has gradually turned into a team that is all working happily together. We now know what we can do and if things don’t go well, we come up with a good solution. (…) We now know how to fry the tastiest schnitzels and the cordon bleu is also very popular.’
