SBU exposes attempted separatism in Ukraine

Since the summer of last year, Russian special services have been recruiting local residents in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Khmelnytsky regions, who, at the time of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, were supposed to announce the creation of “people’s republics.”

The SBU blocked an attempt by Russian special services to create “people’s republics” in the western regions of Ukraine. On Tuesday, April 12, the press service of the department reports.

It is noted that one of the members of the group went to cooperate with the investigation. He said that the group began work to overthrow the constitutional order in the summer of 2021.

He was approached by a retired enemy intelligence officer who turned out to be the organizer of the “scheme”. He announced his intention to create a new democracy in Ukraine, and if the current government itself does not resign, then the group will move on to a forceful scenario.

“In order to seize power, the group had to recruit 500 militants, preferably from former ATO servicemen, and supply them with weapons,” the report says.

The SBU noted that the implementation of the plan was supposed to coincide with the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but thanks to the work of the SBU, the network was exposed, and its organizer and key persons were detained in early March in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Khmelnytsky regions.

Previously it was reported that SBU counterintelligence officers detained an agent of the Russian special serviceswho in Ukraine worked in the Administration of the ex-president and in government agencies.
