The Saudi Crown Prince launches the King Salman Airport project, one of the largest airports in the world

Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Crown Prince, Prime Minister, Chairman of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Public Investment Fund, announced the launch of the master plan for King Salman International Airport , to make Riyadh a gateway to the world, a global destination for transportation, commerce and tourism, and a bridge connecting East and West, in order to establish the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub, according to the ‘Saudi news agency, “SPA”.

The new airport will help support the Kingdom’s plans for Riyadh to be among the ten largest economic cities in the world, and keep pace with the continued population growth of the capital, Riyadh, which aims to reach between 15 and 20 million people within the 2030.

King Salman Airport will be one of the largest airports in the world, covering an area of ​​approximately 57 km², which includes the current terminals under the name of King Khalid Terminals, 6 runways, as well as 12 km² of supporting facilities, assets residential and entertainment, shopping and many other airport logistics facilities.

The airport will increase its capacity to reach 120 million passengers by 2030. It also aims to reach 185 million passengers and transfer up to 3.5 million tons of cargo by 2050.

Residential, recreational and commercial facilities will be implemented, according to the best innovative standards, with designs that mimic the Saudi culture, to offer a unique travel experience with smooth, efficient and effective services for visitors and travellers.

King Salman International Airport places sustainability among its priorities, as it aims to achieve LEED Platinum certification for environmentally friendly projects and will be supported by renewable energy resources.

The announcement of the master plan for King Salman International Airport is in line with the strategy of the Public Investment Fund, which focuses on unlocking the potential of promising industries, real estate projects and infrastructure development projects locally, and in in line with the national strategy for transport and logistics services eThe National Initiative for Global Supply ChainsAnd support the Kingdom’s efforts to diversify the economy, as the project is expected to contribute approximately 27 billion riyals annually to non-oil gross domestic product and create 103,000 direct and indirect job opportunities to help achieve the goals of the Kingdom Vision 2030.
