Politicians leave regional councils. Politikan Puskaradio ponders whether decision-makers are running away from responsibility at a difficult time.
In this week’s Politiikan puskaradio episode, the mass exodus of politicians from the councils of the welfare regions is discussed. Iltalehti’s political editors are in the studio Crete Karvala, Hanna Gråsten-Lahtinen and Elli Harju.
Iltalehti reported on Friday that several government party ministers and MPs have resigned or asked to resign from the councils of the welfare regions. The list includes, for example, ministers Riikka Purra (ps), Lulu Wrist (ps), Kai Mykkänen (cock) me Petteri Orpo (kok) and MPs Timo Heinonen (kok), Hello Sammallahti (kok), Ari Koponen (ps) me Onna Rostila (ps).
– It is not a very thankless task to be making harsh decisions to cut the service network if you think that MPs have to get their support from the local people, says Gråsten-Lahtinen.
– It’s a bit like this here Sanna Marin -effect. More than 30,000 votes from Pirkanmaa and then we immediately leave the parliament. Politicians can do that, but hopefully the voters will remember how it was done, says Karvala.
Sammallahti already promised before the regional elections to leave his seat in the regional council if he is elected to the parliament in the spring of 2023.
In this week’s episode, other topics include the new border law planned by the government and the difficulties of implementing it, the president of the republic Sauli Niinistön tears on the trip to Salo province and RKP’s internal buzz.
In Politiikan puskaradio, Iltalehti’s political reporters review the week’s hottest topics and gossip. A new episode is published on Fridays.
