After the match between Talleres and Boca for the Argentine Cup, Andres Fassi, President of Talleres, reported having been physically attacked by the referee of the match, Andres Merlos.
According to Fassi, the incident occurred in the locker room after a heated argument, where Merlos allegedly punched him. Fassi also said that the vice president of Talleres was also attacked with a kick by the referee.
Given this serious situation, Fassi assured that he will take the case “to the last consequences” and that Merlos will face a criminal complaint. The AFA regulations provide severe sanctions for referees who attack officials, with possible suspensions ranging from three months to five years, depending on the severity of the assault.
Anyway, it will be the Disciplinary Court the person in charge of evaluating the case and making the corresponding decisions. The conflict arose after a controversial refereeing decision that favored Boca in the 1-0, which led to the confrontation in the locker room and the altercation reported by the president of Talleres.
