The director of the hospital, José Alfaro, explained that the failure was due to the poor condition of a 1,500-meter conductor cable that runs from the San Juan de Dios electrical substation located on Elena Avenue to the electrical station located inside the hospital. hospital.

The blackout forced the suspension of some surgical and diagnostic procedures, as well as outpatient care. However, health personnel continued to work to provide care to patients in areas that were not affected.

“Although health personnel have not stopped working, starting today the service will continue normally as it has been doing,” Alfaro said.

Outpatient services will return to normal starting Monday, January 8.

The blackout at the San Juan de Dios Hospital caused concern among the Guatemalan population, who fears for the quality of medical care in said hospital.
