Deep sadness in national football. Mario Keil, player of the Austrian regional league Salzburg, has died at the age of just 27.
Three years ago, Keil came to the traditional Salzburg club. Shortly thereafter, the 27-year-old was diagnosed with lymph node cancer. Keil died on Monday, the Austrian third division club announced in an emotional Facebook post.
“It’s hard to let you go. Grateful to have had you and knowing you live in our hearts, we say goodbye to our beloved Mario Keil,” wrote the Regionalliga club Salzburg. The footballer fell asleep peacefully on Monday. “Take care, thanks for everything,” he finally greeted the club.
Keil moved to Salzburger Austria in the summer of 2019, then played 18 games for the regional league club before receiving the devastating diagnosis in late 2019 and then battling cancer. A battle that Mario Keil has now lost…
