The Saltiness of Plovdiv’s Duners: A Consequence of Police Fines on Mass Drivers

Mass drivers in Plovdiv are “ordering” duners for BGN 50 each. Their favorite food is so salty not because the prices have skyrocketed, but because it comes with a fine from the police.

In the last week, a sharp jump in the number of those sanctioned has been reported. They stop their car in a place where it is forbidden to stop and stay – on a boulevard, to take home or eat in front of the dune restaurant.

The police are on the lookout for violators, and they line up. Traditionally, the fast food establishments on “Peshtersko Shosse” and “Sixth of September” boulevards, for example, have several emergency vehicles stopped. This usually impedes traffic, especially during rush hour.

The uniformed officers impose fines, so that the duner costs more than BGN 50.

“Where should we stop? Every meter of the city is built up, every centimeter is drawn and parking is paid for. There is nowhere for cars to move in this city,” commented a Plovdiv resident who stopped to buy a donut at the “Peshtersko Shosse” site. He narrowly escaped a fine, but not the one who stopped behind him.

Popularity with fines for drivers also gained the dunner shop on “Vasil Aprilov” Blvd. There, all of a sudden, law enforcement officers fined dozens who stopped to buy food.

In the last two days, fined people have been complaining on social networks that they did not eat a more expensive doner.
