From the smallest to the largest, they will all be housed in the same boat. The prefecture of Bas-Rhin announces this Tuesday, November 30, the ban on the sale and use of fireworks of categories C1 to C4 and F1 to F4 until Monday, January 3, 2022.
At the head of the reasons given, a security context each year uncertain and strongly disturbed before the health crisis, in 2019. That year, New Year’s Eve was punctuated by urban violence, during which mortars in particular, had been used against firefighters and law enforcement.
“These attacks, which target the police present on the ground for the protection of citizens, using fireworks, are not tolerable”, can we read in a press release.
Violence but also dreaded accidents on the sidelines of the festivities. “The handling of firecrackers, often by minors leads each year to a very large number of accidents, serious injuries to hands and eyes, during this end of year period and throughout the department”, can we still read.
In 2020, a 25-year-old young man died in Boofzheim as a result of the use of a mortar on the evening of December 31.
In an epidemic situation which could reach a peak next month and which sees the circulation of the virus accelerate in the department, the prefecture also recalls “that it is essential to avoid any spontaneous gathering linked to the sale or use of fireworks”.
