The sale will be launched on August 1 by the Swiss customs administration on a special occasion portal. It will be enough to enter the category of the car, the country of its registration and the registration number. Creating a customer account and entering personal data is not necessary.
The paper version of the vignette that sticks to the windshield remains valid even in resale. The price of both versions is the same – 40 Swiss francs (about one thousand CZK), Swiss television reported SRF. The price of the stamp has been at this level since 1995. Payment for the electronic vignette will be possible by online payment card.
The introduction of the electronic version of the vignette does not change the practice that anyone who wants to drive through Switzerland on any highway, even once a year, must pay an annual fee.
The rule that the stamp is always valid from December 1 of the previous year to the end of January of the following year, i.e. a total of 14 months, does not change either. This means that anyone planning to drive on a Swiss highway in the coming weeks, for example, must buy either a paper or an electronic stamp, but in both cases it will only be valid until the end of January 2024.
According to the German automobile club, the electronic stamp brings drivers ADAC some benefits. There will be no need to scrape off the old stamp from the windshield, and there will also be no need to stand in line when buying a vignette at the Swiss border, which is formed especially during the holiday months. Also, if the windshield is broken, the car owner will not have to ask the Swiss customs administration for a replacement vignette.
Transfer when changing the license plate only once
When the owner changes the car and keeps the license plate, the electronic stamp remains valid. When changing the registration plate, it will be possible to request the transfer of the vignette to it, but only once.
Paper and electronic highway signs will be sold in parallel in the coming years. The sale of paper stamps should only stop when their share falls below ten percent.
