The Saint-Exupéry complex closes its doors to vaccination against Covid-19 in Draguignan

For months, from Monday to Sunday, doctors, nurses, volunteers, municipal staff and firefighters will mobilize in this place to deal with the pandemic.

“In all, more than 116,000 injections have been performed so far” counts Julien Cuba, the deputy general manager of services.

The last morning

But for the past few weeks, under the effect of an increasing number of vaccinated people and a significant drop in contamination, “the improvised dispensary” was no longer running at full speed and only operated twice a week. It has just closed its doors definitively this Saturday, March 26, after a last morning of vaccinations where there was no longer a hurry as at the height of the health crisis.

Mayor Richard Strambio took the opportunity to make the trip and once again pay tribute to all those who have worked for the health of others, with a special mention to the members of the French Rescue and First Aid Federation (FFSS). And to all the volunteers.

Guy Leichle is one of them. Member of the NGO AGIRabcd helping people in difficulty, this retiree was still hard at work this Saturday morning, as since last July, “to help administratively the public”. And thus relieve the medical staff of other tasks than that of vaccinating with all their might.

Place for elections

“Efficiency and generosity” were Richard Strambio’s key words to sum up a general mobilization “where no one counted their time to help”.

The mayor also plans to thank all these people with a festive event, the terms of which have not yet been determined.

This should not take place immediately at the Saint-Exupéry complex. “Before reopening it to the public, a safety commission will come by to check that everything is up to standard” stated the elected official.

It will then be necessary to wait for the place to return to normal life. It will now serve as a polling station for the next presidential elections.
