The royal speech of November 6 established the framework for Morocco’s future trade negotiations with its international partners. The foreign minister reiterated it during a meeting, held last Tuesday behind closed doors, of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives.
The kingdom “must free itself from the logic of blackmail exercised by Europe from time to time”, specifying that any future agreement with the European Union must “respect Moroccan sovereignty as a starting point”, by integrating the Western Sahara, reports the EFE agency which quotes a summary of the remarks made by Nasser Bourita in front of the deputies.
In front of the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Bourita affirmed that the “renewed dynamic” with the EU requires “greater coordination and vigilance” in the face of what he described as “maneuvers” by the Polisario, with reference to its appeals against the agreements before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Nasser Bourita assured the deputies that his department “is mobilizing the necessary support within the institutions of the EU and the member countries” to prepare the appeal for the judgment of the CJEU of September 29, canceling the fishing agreements and agricultural agreement between the kingdom and the EU. “Morocco and the EU intend to correct the imbalances and restore the situation to its normal course,” he promised.
Last week, EU state ambassadors adopted a resolution supporting the legal services’ proposal to appeal against the September 29 decision to the same court. This green light will be formalized at the meeting of the Council of Development Ministers, scheduled for Friday, November 19.
The minister was also questioned on the state of relations between Spain and Morocco. He said “they have experienced an unprecedented crisis which has affected mutual trust and raised questions about the fate of these relations”. A reference to the case of the hospitalization of Brahim Ghali in Logroño. He added that Morocco “is attached to the spirit of good neighborliness and aspires to the best of relations with its northern neighbor, within the framework of mutual respect, respect for commitments and constructive cooperation in various fields in order to inaugurate a new stage ”.
