This Thursday it was announced that the United States government headed by Joe Biden will implement the controversial “Stay in Mexico” program, which was created during the Donald Trump administration, but why has it caused criticism?
The program known as Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) consists of forcing people seeking asylum in the United States to remain in Mexico until applications are approved.
However, since its implementation it has caused much controversy due to the precarious conditions in which migrants live.
The Human Rights First organization repeatedly denounced that people were waiting for several months in Mexico and were victims of criminal groups, and rapes, kidnappings and torture were also reported.
This measure announced by the US government was accepted by the Mexican authorities. According to ‘La Jornada’, the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) has yet to define the date on which the MPP will start.
