The Saeima decides to temporarily redistribute the number of judges

Saeima This week, two decisions were made, which envisage increasing the number of judges in the Senate by two positions for two years, respectively reducing the number of judges in the Administrative Regional Court, the portal “Delfi” found out in the Press Service of the Saeima.

As before, the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court informed the Legal Affairs Committee responsible for the progress of draft decisions in the Saeima Ministry of Justice representatives, the temporary redistribution of two judge positions is necessary to strengthen the capacity of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate and to reduce the backlog of cases.

The decision of the Saeima stipulates that as of 1 January 2021 there are 139 judges in the regional courts of the Republic of Latvia (including 20 judges in the Administrative Regional Court), as of 1 January 2023 there are 141 judges in the regional courts of the Republic of Latvia (including 22 judges in the Administrative Regional Court) . As of January 1, 2021, there are 38 senators in the Senate, but as of January 1, 2023 – 36 senators.
