The Saeima confirms the status of Latvia as a branch / member state of CERN

On Thursday, May 27, the Saeima ratified the agreement between Latvia and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) on granting Latvia the status of an associate member of CERN, the Saeima press service reported.

The agreement between Latvia and the European Nuclear Research Organization was signed on April 14 this year. It envisages granting Latvia the status of an associate member of CERN and the right to participate in its scientific program.

Participation in training and education programs at CERN is also expected, as well as the continuation and improvement of the cooperation started in 2016. Latvian entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to participate in CERN procurements.

CERN It is a European scientific organization that is heavily involved in basic physics research and technological development. This organization was founded in 1954. CERN currently has 23 Member States and six Associated Member States, including Lithuania, and three Associated Member States acceding to the accession phase, including Estonia.
